Bring your kids to the Kids in the Garden Centre at the Toronto Home Show - an exciting and fun place to be. Professional artists from the School of Makeup Art (www.schoolofmakeupart.com) have donated their valuable time to build awareness in our community for children and adults who are faced with the death of a family member, friend or who themselves are facing an untimely end of life experience.

The Pediatric Palliative Care and Grief Program at Mount Sinai Hospital is the only specialized centre in Ontario that offers medical and counseling support for grieving or dying children and their families in their own home. Counselors also help adults learn how to speak with their children about dying and death. As one of the only home-based palliative care programs specifically for children in Canada, this special Centre helps children to receive the quality help they need to ease their suffering. The loss of a loved one is always painful and full of grief; but for children to face that loss - or face death themselves - is particularly poignant. The funds raised help the development of specialized programs for dying children, grief counselling, education initiatives, staff development, collaboration and advocacy and have an enormous - and immediate - impact on the patients and families the team cares for every year. The Centre is dedicated to the relief of suffering, and the improvement of quality of life. In addition, the Centre is actively involved in furthering palliative care services at a local, provincial, and national level.

The centre also provides care for those who have lost a loved one through violence and tragedy. "Helping children who are living with and dying from an illness either their own, a sibling, a parent, friend and loved ones. The centre also provides emergency grief counseling and a broad range of consumer services to improve the quality of the end of life experience."

Members of the Centre are respected and renowned leaders and professionals in the development and implementation of unique and innovative palliative care programs. They are recognized authorities in the areas of standards of practice, wound care management.
